Why Use Propane?

Clean Gas Commercial Delivery Truck Propane Tanker

On a U.S. nationwide average, propane costs less than electricity on a per-BTU basis. According to a U.S. Department of Energy study, electricity is nearly twice as costly as propane. In Cayman, electricity is three times more expensive than propane. This means it could cost you over twice as much to operate your water heater, clothes dryer, or range with electricity than with propane from Clean Gas.

Homes supplied with propane have a better resale value and rent faster. On average, they cost less to run than homes with all-electric appliances. Homeowners selling or trying to rent their homes realize sales twice as fast, and property owners have on average longer renters because of the significant savings in using propane-powered appliance such as dryers, ranges, water heaters and generators.

For example, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) estimates that propane water heaters save at least $175 annually compared to electric water heaters and heat 2½ times the water with the same amount of energy. With the advent of the new combined heat and power units (CHP), propane can save you money by heating water and creating more efficient electricity at the same time.

Advantages of using propane

Lower utility costs, make your home more comfortable and reduce your impact on the environment. On average, propane costs less than half as much per BTU as electricity and propane gas appliances cost 30 to 60 percent less per hour of operation than do electrical appliances.

With propane you get more hot water from your tank or tankless water heater because it recovers 2½ times faster than an electric one, and it costs about 30% less to operate. You can reheat a whole tankful of water in just 16 minutes with propane, compared to an hour with electricity!

By relying on propane to power your appliances and for various applications in your home, you will reduce your dependence on the electric grid in the event of an electric power outage. With propane you can still have hot water, electricity from a generator and hot food during outages, even in severe weather conditions.

Environmentally Friendly

Propane creates far less pollution than the power plants supplying you with electricity, so you help protect the environment by providing cleaner, more breathable air. It is also insoluble in water so it presents no risk to soil and ground water supplies.

Propane Versus Electric

Water Heaters

Propane water heaters provide more hot water than electric water heaters because they recover 2 ½ times faster and they cost about 30% less to operate. Also, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) estimates that propane water heaters save at least $175 annually compared to electric water heaters (All savings noted are U.S. Savings are substantially more using Cayman data).

The pollution created from burning propane is far less than that created by the diesel power plants currently supplying you with electricity. By using propane, you help protect the environment by contributing to cleaner, more breathable air.

Aesthetic Lighting

Propane gas can be used for aesthetic lighting  such as tiki torches, fire pits, and accent lighting, all the while using less energy than the electrical counter parts.

Most cooks and professional chefs prefer cooking with gas.  A new propane cook top or range costs one-third less than cooking with an electric range. Propane delivers faster cooking times, more accurate cooking temperature and distributes heat more evenly.
